Meet the Team: From Government Comms to B2B Tech PR

Meet Emily, who has recently joined Neo PR as an Account Manager. With prior PR agency and public sector experience, Emily explains below why she has decided to make a return to B2B agency life!

Growing up, I never had a clear plan about what job I wanted to have, but I hoped it would involve writing. I didn’t know a lot about PR, but as I began to learn more about the industry, I felt determined to give it a go and sent my CV to various agencies in London.

I started my career at a PR and communications agency in Farringdon, gaining valuable insight into the public relations industry while working on a range of B2B accounts.

Two years later, an opportunity to work in the press office of the official archive for the UK government arose and I moved into the public sector. I worked in a team of four to arrange filming, coordinate press events, pitch features and brief civil servants for interviews.

Returning to an agency

After three years of working at The National Archives, I decided that it was time to return to ‘agency life’ and I applied for a role at Neo PR. I missed the buzz of working at an agency, the variety of different clients and I felt ready for a new challenge.

Neo PR provides the opportunity to learn and develop whilst working on a range of varied accounts. During the application process, it became clear that culture really is firmly at the heart of the business. My interview at the Stables confirmed my ambitions to work at Neo, I’ve never been to an interview in such a unique setting and the team were so friendly and welcoming. I was delighted to be offered a role.

So, after publicising historical events and anniversaries, I am now turning my attention to clients whose products and services are shaping the future. Although the two roles might sound drastically different, they have more in common than I anticipated. From drafting thought leadership to pitching to journalists, I’ve already been able to utilise my skills in my new role at Neo PR.

Exciting times ahead

I feel lucky to have joined Team Neo at a really interesting time. In my first month, I’ve helped the team with onboarding new clients and planned stories for the festive period. Added to this, communicating about how clients are adapting to the post-Brexit and post-lockdown landscape has been really informative and demonstrates the ever-changing market. Each day is different and I’m really enjoying learning about the new industries and the innovative clients within them.

After working in London, I also really value being in the countryside and have already been for a walk around the fields with other members of the team. It’s great to see my colleagues face-to-face at the Stables and Sam the office dog brightens up my day!

As a new Neo PR’ian, I’m looking forward to developing my skills and learning from the team. It’s clear they do a great job for clients and I hope to contribute to their success in the future.
