Meet the Team: Entering the Hybrid World of PR
Meet Millie, who has recently joined Neo PR as a Senior Account Executive. With previous tech PR agency experience, Millie knows the in’s and out’s of the industry. But joining a new agency in a post-COVID-19 world can be a daunting transition to make, especially when adapting to the hybrid way of working, as she explains below!
B2C Experience
After spending two years working within a B2C tech PR agency as an Account Executive, I was keen to explore the B2B side of the industry, writing a totally different range of content and working with clients and publications that I perhaps wouldn’t have crossed paths with in the world of consumer tech. I absolutely love working in PR, as it’s always so fast-paced! From building strong relationships with clients and journalists, to achieving top-tier coverage, the work we do is incredibly rewarding and no two days are the same.
Soon after deciding that I was ready to try something new, I was introduced to Neo PR. The team is close-knit, super welcoming and brilliant at what they do, so it was a no-brainer for me when I was offered a role as a Senior Account Executive.
I was really excited to get started, but of course a little apprehensive! Making such a big change and moving to work in a new company during a time where things still feel very uncertain definitely felt like a risk for me. I had really settled into my previous job and was so familiar with the clients and the team, although I definitely felt ready for my next challenge and couldn’t have been more excited to join the team at Neo.
Hybrid Working
Starting a new role with a hybrid working model and meeting some of my new colleagues for the first time via a screen has certainly felt a little strange, but having support and guidance both face to face and virtually seems to be the best of both worlds! Days spent in our ‘touchdown space’ at the Stables ensure that the whole team can spend time together, without the chimes of “we’ve lost you!”, “you’re on mute!” and “can you hear me?!” that constantly pops up when you’re working from home.
It’s also great to have the flexibility to work from home – it really feels as though I have more hours in the day, and helps massively in maintaining a healthy work-life balance. The 10-second commute to and from my desk means that I have much more free time both before and after work for things like heading to the gym, seeing friends and walking the dog – which Nellie the Lab is a big fan of!
After being unsure on whether or not I would enjoy working remotely at a new job, I definitely realise now that I didn’t have anything to worry about. The Neo PR team have been super supportive and welcoming, schedule regular calls with me to check-in and are always around if I have any (sometimes silly!) questions.
For me, hybrid working has meant that I really appreciate being able to work from the comfort of my own home, but I also look forward to days spent with the team in person – a real win-win!
It’s natural to be nervous when starting a new job and after such a difficult and uncertain year, my nerves and worries were definitely heightened! Meeting people remotely and learning the ropes from home is a completely different experience than what I have been used to, but I couldn’t be happier that I decided to take the leap into my next role.
