A Day in The Life of Hybrid Working: Christmas Edition

A Day in The Life of Hybrid Working: Christmas Edition

This is my absolute favourite time of year. I just love the festivities of everybody’s houses lighting up the evening and sitting on the sofa with a hot drink and a Christmas movie on. There’s nothing quite like it!

In a world where Covid-19 still bubbles under the surface and we are unsure what the future holds, it makes you appreciate times like this just that little bit more. Especially this year, as last year wasn’t the Christmas many had planned. With Neo PR’s office, like most across the country now adopting a hybrid working model, and after the recent government guidelines suggesting to work from home where possible, it means we get to soak up the pretty lights on the tree that you inevitably spent three hours arguing about with your family.

So how does my working day look, at Christmas time when hybrid working?

It’s beginning to look a lot like PR

I start my morning the way I always do, with a nice warm cup of coffee, but now, I also start my day singing away to some Christmas music – I stand by it when I say it ALWAYS puts you in a good mood! Of course, I open my chocolate advent calendar and have that for breakfast – yes at the age of 21 I still have an advent calendar and will continue to do so, chocolate has no age limit! And I’m wearing my Christmas pyjamas that I’ll cover up with a jumper when I’m on call so I look ready for the day and not just like a Christmas lunatic. I wasn’t joking when I told you this really is my favourite time of year.

The morning always consists of going through my to-do list for the day and checking off the tasks I do most mornings; clipping coverage for clients and checking through any emails from the day before.

The conversation in the office (before new restrictions) usually consisted of what presents you have or haven’t bought for people, and of course, the mandatory office Secret Santa and Christmas work do. Have you not heard yet, January is the new December, it’s all the rage for Christmas parties. Jokes aside, we also discuss important PR business such as content for the new year and making sure we have everything lined up for the end of the year.

All I want for Christmas is Content

The afternoons are where I need a little ‘pick me up’ to boost me through the rest of my day, and what better way to achieve that than having a Christmas movie on in the background! I spend my afternoons often typing up social media for clients and posting on their social platforms. I pitch in for any features our clients might be relevant for and have client calls! Hybrid working means video calls, and video calls mean you may be lucky to get a glimpse of your co-workers Christmas tree just to add some festive cheer.

Hybrid working around this time of year means you get the best of both worlds. We get to enjoy festivities at home and in the office. We may be sitting at our desks typing away, in and out of meetings and updating spreadsheets, but we get to see our houses decorated like Santa’s Grotto, and answer the door for our many Christmas deliveries with no worry of a ‘We just missed you!’ letter from the postman. We also get to experience the office festivities (pre-covid restrictions) and work hard with your colleagues to achieve your goals for the year.

As the sun starts to set, the Christmas tree lights get brighter and your house slowly turns into a Winter Wonderland, it’s the perfect way to end a day of hard work. As we’re all counting down the days for the festive break, the office is preparing for a brand new year of PR and great accomplishments!
