Supporting World Mental Health Day 2018
“Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.” – World Health Organisation
Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year.
What does mental health mean to you?
At Neo PR, we’ve taken a proactive stance to mental health, encouraging open communication within our team and acknowledging that mental health issues can come in many different shapes and sizes.
Earlier in the year, we took a closer look at stress in the workplace and wrote a blog about our activities in Stress Awareness Month, giving advice for both employees and employers. We learned a lot throughout the month, which we have continued to develop and think about. One of our Directors, Jo, describes how Neo PR takes an active stance on mental health.
“At Neo PR, we acknowledge that individuals’ mental health is as important as physical health. Mental health issues can arise at any point in time, from many different causes, and affect different people in different ways. We encourage both open discussions around mental health in the office, and offer proactive support for those who may have to live with varying degrees of mental ill health.”
Our stance on mental health includes:
- Encouraging employees to seek professional help for their mental health troubles.
- Working from home when the challenge of coming into the office is too great.
- Working from home if employees’ family members with mental health troubles need support.
- Line managers being willing to listen and be supportive of mental health troubles.
